Back in 1993, Adrian Robinson, a member of the Lions Club of Clacton on Sea, set his first quiz which was an elimination round for BBC Essex’s Half Crown Quiz. The quiz was set up to find the eight teams from the Lions Clubs based in Essex who would compete in the broadcast rounds of the Half Crown Quiz. This Quiz competition was designed to raise awareness of Children in Need.

From there, as one might say, the rest is history and Adrian then became in increasing demand to create Quiz Nights to raise funds for local charities. There are currently between 6 and 8 quizzes a year depending on demand.  Locally based charities are always welcome to approach us for a slot in the calendar but we are usually booked up for at least 12 months ahead.

Adrian has also been writing up to two Quiz Sheets a year to raise further funds for charities in need. These regularly sell over 1,000 copies locally and across the internet. The last Quiz Sheet raised over £3,000.

Currently there have been more than 275 different quizzes will have raised over £127,000 for a long list of local and other charities. Most of the quizzes are run by the  Clacton on Sea Lions Club and the support of the Lions Club and especially the regular team of hardworking scorers is gratefully acknowledged in reaching this landmark.

A very big thank you for all who have taken part in the Quizzes over the twenty something years that we have been running them.

A similar thank you also goes to all those who have acted as scorers, runners, raffle ticket sellers and table shifters, especially the members of Clacton Lions.  It could not have happened without you all.
